October 27, 2024

We are returning to our Acts series this Sunday. But before we jump back in where we left off, we are going to zoom out and consider the one character who has been actively at work in every scene and at every step – the Holy Spirit. Remember that Luke’s Gospel was about “all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen (Acts 1:1-2).” The implication is that volume two of Luke’s work is telling us about all that Jesus continued to do and teach from His ascended place in heaven through the power of the Holy Spirit.

To help us recognize and appreciate the centrality of the Holy Spirit to God’s mission to seek and to save the lost, Fred Sanders will be preaching for us this Sunday. He will help us see the emphasis the book of Acts makes of the Holy Spirit’s work to spread the message of reconciliation from the epicenter of Jerusalem out toward the ends of the earth and how we fit into this story as He continues to write “new chapters” of the book of Acts (so to speak) through us today.

“Church of Christ! The records of these Acts of the Holy Spirit have never reached completeness. This is the one book which has no proper close, because it waits for new chapters to be added so fast and so far as the people of God shall reinstate the blessed Spirit in His holy seat of control (Arthur T. Pierson, 1895).”

Would you pray for Fred and Kenny as they prepare to lead us in worship through preaching and sung worship? And using the words of a hymn we often sing at Grace, we can pray, “Holy Spirit, living breath of God, breathe new life into our willing souls.”

See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
