Student Ministry Leaders

We exist to make much of Christ by equipping students to be ministers of the Gospel. We do this through:

Biblical Preaching and Teaching

As a ministry, we recognize that we stand upon the sufficiency, clarity, authority, and necessity of the Scriptures. Therefore, on Sundays and Wednesdays we gather as a Student Ministry to feast on the Scriptures so students might grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Our hope is that by prioritizing the Scriptures, students will learn to love God’s Word and abide in it their entire life.

Christ-Centered Worship

Worship is the goal of everything we do as a ministry. We seek “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever” by making much of Christ. Because of this, sung worship is an incredibly important and distinctive part of who we are. In our sung worship, we seek to powerfully, intentionally, and creatively help students worship God through song by helping them see Christ more clearly.

Core Groups

Core groups are volunteer-led small groups. These groups primarily meet on Wednesday nights in order to apply the Scriptures and fill the need for Gospel-centered community. God working through core groups for His glory is what drives our ministry forward. Our core group leaders faithfully and wonderfully lead these groups as they pour themselves out for the sake of the Gospel.

The Gospel

Because the Student Ministry seeks to stand upon the Scriptures, we must be a ministry that stands by the Gospel. The Gospel is the power of God for salvation and growth in Christ for everyone who believes in Jesus. Therefore, the Gospel must stand at the center of our preaching, teaching, worship, core groups, and every other facet of what we do as a ministry. If we fail to be a Gospel-centered ministry, we fail as a ministry.

The Great Commission

The Gospel demands that we be a people who die to ourselves and live to Christ. This means that we live for Christ’s renown rather than the glory of our own name. On top of this, Jesus Himself commanded His Church to go to the ends of the earth to make disciples of all nations. Therefore, the Student Ministry to be about what God is about: God’s glory being made known among the nations.

Trips and Retreats

One key way that we seek to uphold these values is by going on trips and retreats. As a Student Ministry, we take four annual trips:

  • First, is our Middle School Winter Amp, which usually takes place at Grace. This is a fun opportunity for middle schoolers to behold Christ and deepen their relationships with one another over the course of a weekend.
  • Second, is our High School Spring Retreat. This trip takes place in Big Bear and is planned by the Student Ministry staff. It provides students with extended time in the Scriptures and prayer. This trip is always a highlight of the year.
  • Third, is Hume Lake, which is a combined middle/high school week-long trip in Sequoia National Park. Hume is big, loud, and fun, but it’s also an incredible opportunity to grow in relationship with Christ because the people at Hume are dedicated to putting on a God glorifying, Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered camp.
  • Last, is Mission to Mexico, a family-oriented mission trip. Students and their parents travel several hours into Baja, Mexico where we partner with local missionaries. From there, we partner with a church and seek to build up and equip that church to the best of our ability.

There’s nothing magical about these trips. Nevertheless, God always uses them in significant ways to further root students in the Gospel of Jesus to the praise of His glorious grace.
