This week at Adventure Week we’ve been singing these words from Romans 8:38-39 with our Grace kids.
Who can be against us if God is on our side?
Who can accuse us if we have been justified?
Who can condemn the one for whom Christ died?
Who can separate us from the love of Christ?
On Sunday we will see another example of “with all boldness and without hindrance” as Peter and John thrown back into prison, set free by an angel, and continue their public preaching. When the empty prison cell is discovered, this report comes back to the council.
“Look! The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple (unhindered) and teaching the people (boldness).” (Acts 5:25)
And then, when threatened again not to keep teaching in Jesus’ name, their response is, “We must obey God rather than men.” They had a Romans 8:38-39 fearlessness and confidence. As they discuss what to do with these men, a wise voice speaks up.
“Keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” (Acts 5:38–39)
Rob Lister will be preaching Acts 5:12-42 this Sunday and Walt Harrah will be leading our sung worship. Would you take some time this week to read the passage and pray for each as they prepare? And let’s ask the Lord to stir up the same spirit of boldness and courage we see in the apostles, confident that “even if [we] should suffer for righteousness’ sake, [we] will be blessed” and that we would “have no fear… nor be troubled (1 Peter 3:14).”
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
