April 28, 2024

This week we come to the final passage in the Gospel of John and the close of our extended Passion Week series, The Resurrection and the Life, It’s a beautiful picture of the grace and forgiveness found in Jesus. Not only is Peter restored after denying Jesus three times, but he is commissioned to feed His sheep. Amazingly, God’s plan is to entrust the good news of redemption through Jesus to forgiven sinners, saved by grace.

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But, we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us (2 Corinthians 4:6-7).”

This passage also shows us the love of Jesus in the form of “faithful wounds of a friend (cf. Proverbs 27:6)” as his thrice repeated, “Do you love me?” produces godly grief in Peter, giving evidence of his repentant heart. Perhaps this Sunday, Jesus has some lovingly intended faithful wounds for us. Are we open to this?

Peter’s restoration will set us up beautifully to begin our new series through the Book of Acts, With All Boldness and Without Hindrance, the following Sunday, May 5.

Erik Thoennes will be preaching John 21:15-25 this Sunday and Walt Harrah will be leading our sung worship. Would you take some time this week to read the passage and pray for each as they prepare?

See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!

SONG OF THE WEEK

You’ve Already Won by Shane and Shane

There’s peace that outlasts darkness
Hope that’s in the blood
There’s future grace that’s mine today
That Jesus Christ has won
