“Thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere (2 Cor. 2:14).”
In February while visiting one of our Grace Partner families in the middle east, I was struck by how important scent was in the local culture. As we spent a day walking through a large marketplace, entire streets were lined with shops selling bakhoor (incense), oud (agarwood), and perfumed oils. Our friends explained that one of the ways you show hospitality and welcome guests into your home is with fragrance.
In our passage this Sunday, Paul wants us to think about how we “smell” to others as those whom Jesus has delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred into his kingdom of light. Our lives are to draw people’s attention to Jesus like a city on a hill or a lamp on a stand (cf. Matthew 5:14-16).
This Sunday morning, Junior Jamreonvit will be preaching 2 Corinthians 2:12-17 and Kenny Clark will be leading us in sung worship. Would you pray for each as they prepare? In the evening we will gather at 5pm for our annual congregational business meeting followed by our celebration of the Lord’s Supper and family time at 6pm. All are welcome.
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry.
