Preparing the Table

In last week’s Preparing the Table, I likened anger to an emotional riptide that pulls us strongly away from worshipful communion with God. This week as I’ve been thinking of the effect fear can have on our worshipful communion, the analogy that struck me was quicksand. Fear feels like the bottom is falling out from under us in one way or another and we can’t seem to find our emotional footing.

In Psalm 27, David helps us raise our eyes from the quicksand to see the Lord who is “the Stronghold of our lives” who “will lift us high upon a rock” and “lead us on a level path” and “let our hearts take courage” as we wait for him.

In preparation for Sunday, set aside some time to consider the sources of fear that you are facing in your life right now. Ask God to give you fresh eyes to see Him clearly through the window pane of Psalm 27 and then read through it prayerfully line by line. I think that will help you come hungry this Sunday as Darin Earley preaches and Kenny Clark leads us in our sung worship.

See you Sunday, Grace.

Song Link of the Week

Firm Foundation (He Won’t) sung by Worship Initiative (w/Davy Flowers)

Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
‘ve never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
‘Cause He’s never let me down
He’s faithful through generations
So why would He fail now
He won’t!
