Therefore I will always be ready to remind you of these things,
even though you already know them,
and have been established in the truth which is present with you.
2 Peter 1:12

Spiritual dementia. How easy it is to forget who we were, and how far Christ has brought us. Over time the wonder of our salvation fades, and our faith goes on cruise-control.

Now where did I put my smart phone…I just know my car has to be around here somewhere…If I can just remember my password…Or my pin number…Or my anniversary. And then there’s the challenge of remembering names.

The above instances of forgetting are mostly annoying. But 2 Peter is concerned with recalling the great truths that had been taught previously, truths that actually kept faith alive and vibrant. Decades had passed since Jesus’ ascension, and some were asking, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?”

Jesus knew of the importance of remembering, and told his disciples….

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things
and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
JOHN 14:26

This coming Sunday, Kenny Clark will do some reminding of whose we are, where we’re headed and how to maintain our faith as we wait for Jesus to return. Unless you hear a really loud trumpet blast in the next few days (and wouldn’t that be wonderful??!!) we’ll see you this coming Sunday.
