Preparing the Table
Morning: Sunday Worship
As Asaph composed Psalm 73 three thousand years ago, he could hardly have imagined the social media age in which we live. And yet, without a device to scroll past influencer after influencer, he still found himself surrounded by a world living with the motto, “How can God know? Is there knowledge with the Most High?” (v.11) And to make it worse, it seemed to be going better for them… “always at ease, they increase in riches!” (v. 12) It was enough to make him wonder if he’d chosen the wrong team.
All in vain have I kept my heart clean
and washed my hands in innocence.
For all the day long I have been stricken
and rebuked every morning. (vv. 13–14)
Little did he know how much we would need Psalm 73 in our day as an antidote for the spiritual vertigo of envying the wicked. It helps us first by identifying with us in this season and experience we’ve all had. We’re not the first to feel this way and ask these questions. But second, it also keeps us facing toward God in the midst of this dizziness, reminding us which end is truly up.
But when I thought how to understand this,
it seemed to me a wearisome task,
until I went into the sanctuary of God;
then I discerned their end. (vv. 16-17)
Eric Twisselmann will preach Psalm 73 for us this Sunday and Kenny Clark will lead us in our time of worship in scripture and song. Two encouragements as you prepare for Sunday: Set aside some time to read prayerfully through Psalm 73 asking the Lord to make you aware of the ways you may be tempted to envy those who are living in and for the world. And it’s not too late to choose one of our fall Psalms to be memorizing and meditating on throughout this series.
Evening: Member Meeting and Lord’s Supper
In the evening, we will have a member meeting at 5pm for all current Grace members followed by our monthly Lord’s Supper service and family time at 6pm. Two families will be dedicating children, Fred Sanders will lead us to the table from God’s word, and we have some special milestones to mark in the lives of some Grace Partners and Grace staff. You won’t want to miss it.
See you Sunday, Grace.

Lord would You keep me from stumbling
Guard me from all of my doubt
My heart and my flesh though they fail me again
You are the strength that I’ve found
