This Sunday will be our third reading service in the Gospel of Luke, devoting what is normally the time for preaching to the reading of Luke 9:52-14:35. A significant shift happens at this point in Luke.

Just as Peter comes to the realization that Jesus is the Christ of God, He tells his disciples that he must suffer and die and rise again. He reveals his divine glory to Peter, James, and John with the God’s thundering voice from heaven declaring, “This is my Son, my chosen One; listen to him.” And with this, Jesus’ ministry throughout region of Galilee comes to an end and he heads to the cross.

When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. (Luke 9:51)”

While the last section was filled with action – Jesus healing and casting out demons, calming storms and feeding thousands – this section of Luke is filled with teaching. Jesus still has much to say to his disciples about what it means to follow Him.

Join us this week as we continue our series Good News of Great Joy for All People. Take some time to read through this next section yourself and ask the Lord to form us as followers of Jesus as we preach through these passages in the months to come.

See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
