This Sunday we are returning to the book of Genesis and picking up where we left off with God’s plans to bless all the nations of the earth through the one man, Abraham. Here’s where we left the bookmark:
Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. (Genesis 25:8)
The LORD was faithful to Abraham to the very end. Barren Sarah bore a son. And now that son, Isaac, has been given a wife of God’s own choosing. The “seed of the woman” who will one day crush the “seed of the serpent” will continue on.
Our reading service will cover Genesis 25:19 through the end of chapter 35 and we will see the God of Abraham prove Himself to be the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, making them “heirs of the same promise (Hebrews 11:9)” – a faithful God for a fallen people.
This is good news for us, who stand downstream in the same line of promise. “If you are Christ’s, you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:29).”
Join us this Sunday as we rejoice over this promise and recount how God, in His wisdom and power and perfect timing, has brought about this great salvation.
