This may seem like cheating, but this week’s sermon prep is a song. 1 Corinthians 14 begins by urging us to “earnestly desire the spiritual gifts” and will conclude this Sunday saying, “earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.” John Piper encourages churches with the analogy of a sailboat.

“Let’s have our keel deep and stable in the once-for-all biblical revelation of God, and our sails unfurled to every movement of God’s Spirit upon the deeps.”

This song from our first Songs of Grace album helps us pray for fresh wind in the sails. Take a few minutes to listen or sing along (link below) as a prayer for our church.

Gracious Spirit, won’t you visit us?
Rend the heavens and come down
May your presence here be undenied
Turn this meeting upside down

Holy spirit, won’t you come and shake this place
Breath of heaven, fill us with your love and grace
Revive, renew, we’re more than overdue
Shake this place! Shake this place!

Though we stand in awe of all you’ve done
Work your wonders once again
Send a shower on our thirsty souls
End this dryness, let it rain

Holy spirit, won’t you come and shake this place
Breath of heaven, fill us with your love and grace
Revive, renew, we’re more than overdue
Shake this place! Shake this place!

Jolt us out of our complacency
Forge a passion and a zeal
Pour the love of God into our hearts
Every truth of Christ reveal

Holy spirit, won’t you come and shake this place
Breath of heaven, fill us with your love and grace
Revive, renew, we’re more than overdue
Shake this place! Shake this place!

Erik Thoennes will be preaching this week and Kenny Clark will be leading our sung worship. Would you pray for each as they prepare?

See you on livestream, Grace! Come hungry.
