It will never cease to amaze me that God’s plan to spread the greatest news ever to the ends of the earth is to use us. Once Jesus had given his life as a ransom for many and risen from the grave defeating death, as the hymn says, “love’s redeeming work is done… fought the fight the battle won.” In the great commission, Jesus is sending out his people as heralds of this good news and ambassadors for Christ. That’s a lot of responsibility!

Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the right Man on our side,
the Man of God’s own choosing.

So before Jesus ascended, he told his disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8).”

The Spirit and the gifts are ours
through him who with us sideth.

But how exactly are the Spirit and the gifts ours? How does the Spirit distribute and empower these gifts? And how are they to work together? This is the next issue Paul addresses in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11.

Erik Thoennes will be preaching this week and Kenny Clark will be leading our sung worship. Would you pray for each as they prepare?

See you on livestream, Grace! Come hungry.
