This Sunday, Jackson will be preaching from Genesis 26:1-33. Before Esau and Jacob were born, God had ordained:

“Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger (Genesis 25:23).”

That Jacob would receive the blessing, contrary to custom, was the Lord’s plan, and yet… when it comes about, it’s obtained through selfish ambition, sinful deception, and a fast one schemed by Rebekah and carried out by Jacob. This wasn’t the first time (and certainly isn’t the last time) that God sovereignly brought about His divine plans through the sinful actions of fallen people.

It wouldn’t be without its consequences or fall out for Jacob and for others, but in the end, God’s promise to bless all the nations through Abraham’s seed would continue moving forward according to His perfect plan.

Would you read over this passage and pray in preparation for this week’s gathered worship?

  • Ask God to help you hear this sermon with a heart that is “easily edified.”
  • Ask Him to open the eyes of our hearts to see His glory, to see our own sin and weakness, and to magnify Christ and His cross and the sovereign grace in which we stand.
  • And pray for Jackson as he studies and prepares to preach this Sunday.
