Psalm 50:21 diagnoses a tendency we all share. “You thought that I was one like yourself.” Because we lose our patience, we imagine God might, too. Because we are inclined to favoritism, we think God must be, too. And because we are prone to forgetfulness, we presume that God might be, too. In our days of trouble, we share the Psalmist’s questions:
“Will the Lord spurn forever,
and never again be favorable?
Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his promises at an end for all time?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” (Psalm 77:7-9)
Our weekly worship is designed by God to course-correct our weekly drift toward this misperception. A song we’ve recently been singing in our Exodus series assures us:
God is faithful to His word
Even when there seems no way
Though time may pass
His memory will not fade
His promises will never fail
Faithful He has been
Faithful He will be
Ironically, when we are tempted to think God is forgetful, it’s actually because we are.
Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
to the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
I will remember the deeds of the LORD;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds.
Your way, O God, is holy.
What god is gret like our God?
You are the God who works wonders;
you have made known your might among the peoples.
You with your arm redeemed your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Psalm 77:10-15)
This Sunday, Junior Jamreonvit will be preaching a message from Exodus 13:1-22 called Redeemed to Remember as Kenny Clark leads our sung worship. Would you pray for them this week as they prepare? And let’s ask the Lord to deepen our trust in His steadfast love that endures forever.
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!

His Power Will Prevail by Songs of Grace
God’s deliverance is as good as done;
Who could ever count the victories won?
With a watchful eye He protects His own;
He’s the Shepherd, we’re His sheep
When we go to Him with an urgent need
He is always there to intercede
We don’t have to fear, God is on the throne,
His power will prevail
