Preparing the Table
The contrast of the people of Israel before and after the Red Sea rescue is striking. On one side, they feared Pharaoh and his army and cried out to God with complaint, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness?” (Exodus 14:11) On the other side, having seen “the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.” (Exodus 14:31)
Before, they stood silently and watched as the LORD fought for them. After, they broke out in loud praise.
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry,
and he led them through the deep as through a desert.
So he saved them from the hand of the foe
and redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
And the waters covered their adversaries;
not one of them was left.
Then they believed his words;
they sang his praise. (Psalm 106:9-12)
Salvation calls for singing. “Sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously!” Psalm 22:3 describes God as “enthroned on the praises” of his redeemed people.
I will praise my dear Redeemer
His triumphant power I’ll tell
How the victory He giveth
Over sin and death and hell
This Sunday, Erik Thoennes will preach Exodus 15:1-21 and Kenny Clark will lead our sung worship. Would you pray for them this week as they prepare? Ask the Lord to make us people who “sing and make melody to the Lord with our hearts, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:19–20)
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!

SONG OF THE WEEK
In Christ Alone sung by Anchor Hymns
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand
