Last Sunday, we began to see a different Jacob emerging from these years of hard work and waiting. God has slowly been teaching him that his confidence does not lie in his own scheming and striving, but in the Promise Maker and Promise Keeper who goes with him. He had met his match in Laban, and God had given him victory.

But, there’s still Esau to reckon with. As he heads home, the Lord will visit Jacob in an extraordinary way, preparing him to re-enter the land of promise.

As you prepare to join us for worship this Sunday, here are four great reminders (adapted from a tweet I saw last week from Matt Smethurst, managing editor of The Gospel Coalition):

  1. Pray for the preacher’s heart.
  2. Pray for your own heart.
  3. Read the passage that will be preached.
  4. Resolve to come hungry and leave full.

This week the preacher will be Rob Lister. The passage will be Genesis 32.

See you Sunday!
