Preparing the Table
This past Sunday we considered the first part of our statement on what we believe about the Bible, answering, “Why, where, and how has God spoken?” He has spoken that we might know Him and know His great love. And He has spoken in such a way that He still speaks through His written and inspired word. If you missed it, you can watch or listen at these links.
This week we’ll consider the rest of our statement on the Bible, which answers the questions, “What kind of words do we believe the inspired Word of God contains?”
As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged.
True words. Sufficient words. Authoritative words. But our statement moves beyond the “What” to the “So what?” If the Bible really is what we’ve just confessed it to be, what does a Word like that demand from us?
Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.
This Sunday, Fred Sanders will preach on the second half of our second statement of faith and Kenny Clark will lead our sung worship. Would you pray for us as we prepare this week? And here are four prayers from the Psalms that can help us to Pray the Bible as we prepare our hearts for our Sunday gathering.
“Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!” (Psalm 119:36)
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” (Psalm 119:18)
“Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.” (Psalm 86:11)
“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” (Psalm 90:14)
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!

Song of the Week
‘Tis So Sweet recorded by Nathan Drake
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
