This week, Erik will be preaching from Genesis 29:1-30.

Where we left off with Jacob, God had graciously spoken these words over him:

“I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” (Genesis 28:15)

But God’s presence and protection doesn’t mean the years ahead would be easy, nor does it guarantee Jacob would be free from any negative consequences of his past deception. Jacob, the deceiver, is about to meet his match in Laban.

While the Lord is not named directly in this week’s text, we know from His promise to Jacob that He is present with Jacob in all of this and even sovereignly at work through it all to keep and prosper him in the end.

Would you read through this passage and pray in preparation for this week’s gathered worship?

  • Ask God to prepare your heart to be like the good soil in Jesus’ parable that “hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.”
  • And please pray for Erik as he studies and prepares to preach this Sunday and for Drew Brokke as he prepares to lead us in sung worship.
