This Sunday in the gospel of Luke we will get a glimpse of Jesus’ righteous anger. As opposition to Jesus is intensifying among the Jewish religious leaders and their efforts to discredit him and discourage the crowds from following him are increasing, he confronts them with strong words of warning. “Woe to you who…” Six woes. Three to the Pharisees and three to the scribes. And in these woes we learn what really stirs up Jesus’ righteous indignation.

Even in this though, there is love and mercy. These woes aren’t words of final condemnation but warning words of tough love. We would all be wise to listen carefully and take them to heart. There is mercy for all who will turn back toward Jesus.

This Sunday Scott Rosenkranz will be preaching Luke 11:37-54 and Kenny Clark will be leading our sung worship. Would you pray for each as they prepare? Let’s ask the Lord to continue to align what we love and hate with what Jesus loves and hates and to fuel in us a deeper compassion and boldness to join Jesus in his ingathering mission.

See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
