Take some time this week to Ask, Linger, and Share. Find a quiet spot with your Bible and pray:
Lord, as I hold your word, I hold in my hand an embarrassment of riches. The God of the universe has spoken to me.
Save me from neglectful hearing. Don’t let the enemy snatch up what you want me to hear before it can sink down deep.
Save me from superficial hearing. Don’t allow any trial or testing I face right now to cast a shadow of doubt over your word, keeping it from taking root.
Save me from preoccupied hearing. Don’t allow the cares and riches and pleasures of life to outshine the glory and goodness of your word.
As I read now and as I gather with your people this Sunday, give me ears to hear with good-soil hearing. I ask humbly, in Jesus’ name. Amen
Read Luke 18:18-30, our passage for this Sunday, two or three times. (It’s not long!)
Ask:
- What does this passage reveal about God/Jesus?
- What does this passage reveal about me?
- What would an unbelieving response to this passage look like?
- What would a believing response to this passage look like?
Linger. Don’t move on until at least one thought you can savor throughout the day has been impressed upon you.
Share. Look for an opportunity today (and throughout the week) to share that thought with someone else.
This Sunday Eric Twisselmann will be preaching and Kenny Clark will be leading our sung worship. Would you pray for each as they prepare?
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
SONG OF THE WEEK
Be Thou My Vision (Acoustic) by Shane and Shane
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine inheritance now and always
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart
High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art
