Every road trip needs a good playlist. A soundtrack for the journey. You probably don’t share my particular musical preferences, but some songs were just made for driving across the desert (U2’s Joshua Tree album in my opinion) or through mountain forests (our family always listens to It’s All His from the Kingdom Quest Adventure Week album as we arrive at Hume Lake).

The book of Psalms is like God’s playlist for the road trip of life in a fallen world as we head toward home with a capital “H”. But its songs aren’t just good background music. They have power. Power to keep us heading in the right direction, out of darkness into marvelous light. Power to sustain us when our strength wanes. Power to encourage us when our hope wavers. Power to reorient us when we’ve lost our way.

This fall we will spend eleven Sundays in the Psalms. We’ve chosen Psalms that help us through the various seasons and circumstances we walk in life. When we are afraid. When we are angry. When we are waiting. When we are grieving. When we need wisdom. When we are overwhelmed. When we have sinned. You get the idea. Some weeks will meet us right where we are currently living. Some weeks will prepare us for the road ahead.

This Sunday, Kenny Clark will get our series started with Psalm 16 and Caleb Bilti will be leading us in sung worship. Would you pray for us as we prepare?

And we will gather again in the evening at 6pm for our monthly Lord’s Supper service. Rob Lister will lead us to the table from God’s word and we’ve got a number of great family time items to share.

To prepare your own heart, set aside some time to slowly meditate on Psalm 16. And the song link of the week below can help you put a tune to those truths for private worship.

See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
