Preparing the Table

“If only God can make this satisfaction and only man ought to make it: it is necessary that a God-man make it.” ~ Anselm of Canterbury

For the past two Sundays, the question has been, “Who is man?” This Sunday, the question is, “Who is the God-Man?” Why is Jesus Christ the only one sufficient to rescue, reconcile, and renew us?

We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate,
fully God and fully man,
one Person in two natures.

Jesus—Israel’s promised Messiah
was conceived through the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.

He lived a sinless life,
was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
arose bodily from the dead,
ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father
as our High Priest and Advocate.

All glory be to Christ the King, who saw this world enslaved, then bought her with His precious blood by conquering the grave. Now we who once abode in death, in Him have found our lives. Now we are not our own, but His. All glory be to Christ!

Erik Thoennes will be preaching this week and Caleb Bilti will lead our sung worship. Would you pray for us as we prepare this week? And to you ready your heart for Sunday, consider setting aside some time to turn one (or each!) of these passages of Scripture into prayers of praise, giving glory to Christ our King.

Colossians 1:15-23
Philippians 2:5-11
John 1:9-18

“Oh God, who said ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ shine in our hearts this Sunday to increase the light of our knowledge of your glory in the face of Jesus Christ.” (cf. 2 Corinthians 4:6)

Join us at 6pm for our monthly Lord’s Supper service and family time as Jason Tresser, our newest elder to join the team, brings us a word from the Word and our Grace Partners Anna and Adam Day share about their work at Tyndale Theological Seminary in the Netherlands.

See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!

Song of the Week

Creed written by Rich Mullins and recorded by Shane & Shane

I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven
And Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried
And I believe what I believe
Is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God
And not the invention of any man
