Preparing the Table
In Acts 17, when Paul was given an open door to preach in Athens, he began like this.
“As I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. (Acts 17:23)
How do you worship an unknown God, much less root your faith in Him? Roots need something to hold onto. Paul was able to proclaim the good news of God because God has made Himself known. He is not silent. He has spoken and in a manner that continues to speak today. Our second statement of faith is what we believe about the Bible, and it begins with the truth that God is knowable.
We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors.
This Sunday, Kenny Clark will preach on the first half of our second statement of faith – what we believe about the Bible – that answers why, where, and how we believe God has spoken. Caleb Bilti will lead our sung worship. Would you pray for us as we prepare to feed the flock this week? Some passages of scripture you could meditate on in preparation are Psalm 1; Deuteronomy 4:32-40; Hebrews 1:1-2; and 2 Peter 1:1-4.
Our annual meeting will take place at 5pm in the main sanctuary followed by our Lord’s Supper service at 6pm.
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
