“I’ve been trusting you, God. So why has my life gotten worse?”
I think we’ve all felt that feeling and asked God that question at some point. Maybe right now. That’s where the people of Israel are at in our passage this Sunday.
And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD with which he had sent him to speak, and all the signs that he had commanded him to do. Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the people of Israel. Aaron spoke all the words that the LORD had spoken to Moses and did the signs in the sight of the people. And the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshiped. (Exodus 4:28–31)
But then things went from bad to worse as the Pharaoh redoubles their oppression, demanding more bricks, but making them find their own straw. Their trust and worship turns to doubt and discouragement.
“The LORD look on you and judge, because you have made us stink in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.” (Exodus 5:21)
But the LORD is patient, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. He reassures them that He has not forgotten His promises to Abraham and has not changed His mind. He can still be trusted. And we need to hear this reminder, too.
Jason Oakes will be preaching from Exodus 4:18-6:13 and Walt Harrah will be leading us in sung worship. Would you pray for them this week as they finish their preparation?
And join us at 6pm for our monthly Lord’s Supper service and family time. Chris Pop will encourage us from the word before we proclaim Jesus’ death through communion.
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
