Things that we have heard and known,
that our fathers have told us.
We will not hide them from their children,
but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done. (Psalm 78:3–4)
Asaph followed that charge by recounting all the glorious deeds of the Exodus. God had seen their plight, heard their cries, and delivered them from slavery in Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. He had led them through the wildnerness raining manna and meat from heaven, bringing water from stones, driving out their enemies before them, and leading them into a land flowing with milk and honey. What was his point?
“Don’t hide these stories from your kids!”
Grace, the glorious deeds of the Lord that we have seen and known have infinitely outshown Asaph’s list. God sent His Son because He saw our plight and heard our cries. And Jesus has delivered us from our slavery to sin and death with His nail-pierced hands and outstretched arms on the cross. He rose victoriously and is leading a train of captives out of darkness into marvelous and eternal light and life. He is coming again to create a new heavens and earth, make all things knew, and dwell among us as our Light forever.
“We will not hide these stories from our kids!”
The last ministry value we will consider this Sunday is the priority of ministry to our Children and Youth. And we’ve got some fun things planned for the morning.
And we’ve got donuts! Between services and after the second service donuts and coffee will be served in two locations on campus. Come to our youth room upstairs in the west building and our new family library downstairs in room C4 (next to the gate into the lower playground) for a morning treat and see some of the spaces where we are doing our part to live out Psalm 78:3-4 each week.
Suggested dress code: In the spirit of this week’s ministry value, if you have ever served as a volunteer at one (or more) of our summer Grace Kids’ Adventure Week programs, would you consider wearing your favorite year’s volunteer t-shirt this Sunday?
